Money Is Numbers and Numbers Never End*

* This post is part of my effort to feature pieces that I wrote in the past.

It's 15 minutes to midnight, and I've just returned from a long day, running on the little rat wheel.

At times, having to balance a full time corporate job and meeting personal financial goals can be overwhelming, especially on days like this. I would be lying if I said that this journey towards financial independence is a walk in the park.

It's more like an uphill hike along a meandering terrain, decorated with obstacles and emotional hurdles - not forgetting the loaded backpack that's strapped on you. And the further you walk, the more the straps dig into your shoulders.

This uphill battle will never end if you're chasing a mere number in your head. So you keep running on the treadmill that burns time and precious relationships.

What's the number in your head? 500,000? 1,000,000? 10,000,000?

I have to keep reminding myself that it's not a number that I'm chasing. It's about building a system that will provide enough, and then some. It's about having enough so that you can focus on things that are important and fulfilling to you, without worrying about making ends meet.
It's important to remember that money is numbers and numbers never end. If I'm chasing a number in my head, my search for happiness will never end.
